Dyeing of 100% cotton yarn with Reactive dye by the discontinuous method.

The dye which contains a reactive group and this reactive group makes a covalent bond with the fiber and acts as an integral part of the fiber is called reactive dye. specific properties like colorfastness, a wide range of shade, the brilliance of shade, and simple application procedure reactive dyes are very popular for textile coloration. It reacts with fiber in the presence of alkali and adheres as a part of the fiber.

Nature Of sample: 100% cotton yarn.

Apparatus Required:  i) Beakers. ii) Glass Rod. iii) Pipette. iv) Measuring Cylinder. v) pH meter.        vi)Tripod Stand. vii) Gas Burner. viii)Thermometer. ix)Pot.

                                 Sample Weight: 10gm

                                 Reactive Dye: 1% owf (S.solution-1% )

                                  Wetting agent: .5 g/L (S.solution-1%)

                                  Global salt:25 g/L (S.solution-20%)

                                  Soda ash: 5 g/L (S.solution-15%)

                                   Leveling agent: 1 g/l(S.solution-1%)

Time: 20 min (Your experiment time)

                                   pH: 11

                                   M:L: 1:20

                                   Temperature: 60°C

Function Of chemical :

Wetting agent:
To reduce the surface tension of water to allow it to spread drops onto a surface, increasing the spreading abilities of a liquid.
Global Agent:
Soda Ash:
Leveling agent :

   Calculation:

                                  Sample weight: 10 gm

                                  Solution = (20 x 10) ml
                                                 =200 ml

                                  Reactive dye = 10 x 1 %  / 1%
                                                        = 10 ml

                                  Global Salt = 200 x 25 x 100 / 20 x 1000
                                                     = 25 ml

                                  Leveling agent = 200 x 1 x 100 / 1 x 1000
                                                           = 20 ml

                                   Soda Ash = 200 x 5 x 100 / 15 x 1000
                                                     =6.66 ml

                                   Wetting agent = 200 x .5 x 100 / 1 x 1000
                                                          = 10 ml

                                     Initial water = 200 - (10+25+20+6.66+10)
                                                          = 128.34 ml

       Precaution:
  1. We have to maintain laboratory precautions very carefully.
  2. Every chemical we take should be taken accurately by pipette and should be taken very carefully.
  3. We should be very careful during the time of working with a gar burner.
  4. We should have to maintain the temperature accurately.
