Difference Between Single Lift Dobby and Double Lift Dobby

Single lift dobby: In the dobby shedding mechanism where each hook controls a single heald forming a bottom closed shed and the beat-up is done in a closed shed is called single lift dobby.

  1. Single lift dobby is driven from the crankshaft.
  2. It is relatively simple in construction.
  3. This is now rarely used in weaving silk and rayon.
  4. Slow speed.
  5. High power consumption.
  6. Heavy wear & tear.
  7.  The high strain on the warp.

Double lift dobby: In the dobby shedding mechanism where two hooks control a single heald forming an open shed and the weft is beaten up in a crossed shed is called double lift dobby.
  1. Double lift dobby is driven from the bottom shaft of the loom.
  2. High speed.
  3. Less wear & tear,

Double lift dobby
1. It forms a bottom-closed shed.
1. It forms an open shed.
2. Produce intimates the appearance of handloom fabrics, since the beat up is done on the closed shed.

3. Double hooks in double lift dobby control a single heald.
4. single lift dobby is driven from the crankshaft of the loom.
4. Double lift dobby is driven from the bottom shaft of the loom.
5. More time is required to produce a shed.
5. Less time is required.
6. The speed of the loom is low.
6. The speed of the loom is high.
7. More strain is put on the warp line.
